The Estate & The Sea: A Villa-and-Yacht Week in Los Cabos

·6 min read

Most visits to Los Cabos are organized around a choice: the house or the boat. A week in a cliffside villa, perhaps with an afternoon on the water, or a week at sea with a night or two ashore. The Estate & The Sea begins from a different premise. It treats the residence and the yacht as two rooms of the same house, each fully staffed, each with its own kitchen, and both run from a single plan. The result is a week that moves between terrace and deck without a seam showing.

Why pair a villa with a yacht

The peninsula is shaped for it. Cabo San Lucas sits where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, and the most private residences are built on the slopes and beaches that face that water. From a terrace in Pedregal or along the Corridor, the sea is the view from nearly every room. A yacht turns that view into a second place to be: the coves beyond the arch at Land's End, the long coast toward San José del Cabo, and, for those with more time, the reefs and islands further north.

The two also balance one another. A villa offers space, permanence and a household that learns a party's habits over several days. A yacht offers movement, open water and a day that can change course at lunch. Together they allow a week to hold both rest and range, which is something neither does entirely on its own.

The house: a Cabo villa with a chef

The heart of the shore half of the week is the household. In the finest Los Cabos residences, a chef is not an added service but part of how the house is run. Menus are drafted before arrival around the party's preferences, dietary needs and the occasions in the week. Provisioning is done in advance, so the kitchen is ready from the first evening. Breakfast arrives at the hour the house prefers; dinner is served on the terrace or by the pool, or moved indoors when the evening asks for it.

Two houses in the Marea collection show the range. Villa La Datcha, on the beachfront in Pedregal, has ten bedrooms and sleeps twenty, and its stay includes three chefs and six butlers, along with a private spa with a snow room and a beachfront pool and pavilion. It is a house scaled for multi-generational gatherings and milestone weeks. Villa Bellissima, on the Pedregal cliffside, has nine bedrooms that sleep eighteen, two pools and a twelve-seat cinema, and suits a longer, quieter stay. Along the Corridor, Villa Cielito in Chileno Bay offers seven bedrooms, a chef-appointed kitchen and, unusually for the coast, a swimmable beach. Each appears with current details in the villa collection.

Where a house does not include a chef as part of the stay, our concierge arranges private chefs and butlers, in-villa tasting menus and dedicated household staff, so the experience of the residence is the same whichever house is chosen.

The sea: a galley of its own

The signature itinerary pairs a Pedregal estate with a yacht of 130 feet or more, and at that scale the vessel brings its own kitchen and its own crew. Three yachts in the fleet meet that description, and each suits a different shape of week.

Sovereign, 130 feet

A tri-deck motor yacht with five staterooms, Sovereign welcomes up to twenty guests for the day and is anchored by one of the peninsula's most celebrated onboard chefs. At-rest stabilizers, a six-person jacuzzi and a full complement of water toys make it a natural choice for long days out from a villa base, returning to the house each evening. Charters begin at $11,200 for four hours.

Rising Dawn, 141 feet

A Majesty 140 built in 2021, Rising Dawn has six staterooms, sleeps twelve and carries a crew of nine. Its beach club with waterslide, sundeck jacuzzi and zero-speed stabilizers make it a residence at sea, suited to guests who want to spend several nights aboard within the week. Charters begin at $200,000 per week.

As You Wish, 164 feet

The flagship of the collection, a Westport W164 with seven staterooms, sleeps twelve and is run by a crew of eleven. A sundeck jacuzzi and gym, an outdoor cinema, three Sea-Doos and a 42-foot Freeman tender give it the self-sufficiency of a small estate. Charters begin at $252,000 per week. Each yacht is presented in full in the fleet.

The residence and the yacht become two rooms of the same house, each fully staffed, both run from a single plan.

One menu, two kitchens

The quiet advantage of composing the week as one is continuity at the table. Preferences gathered for the villa travel with the party to the yacht: the allergies, the wines, the way one guest takes coffee and another prefers a late lunch. Menus are planned across both kitchens so that a day at sea does not repeat the previous night's dinner ashore, and so that the week builds rather than resets. A seafood lunch at anchor might lead to a slower, longer dinner on the terrace. A celebration dinner might be held aboard at sunset, with the house prepared for a late return.

For evenings out, the concierge holds priority tables across the peninsula, from El Farallón and Cocina de Autor to Flora Farms, Acre, Sunset Monalisa and Nobu, so that a night away from both kitchens is as easy as a night in.

How the week is shaped

The itinerary typically runs five to ten nights, and its rhythm depends on the party. Some guests spend the first days settling into the villa before a run of days at sea. Others alternate, a day on the water followed by a day in residence. Those with a larger yacht often spend two or three nights aboard mid-week, then return to the house for the final days.

Season shapes the water. From mid-December through mid-April, humpback and gray whales pass close to the peninsula, and whale watching hosted by marine biologists can be folded into a day aboard. Further north, the Sea of Cortez offers the coral reefs of Cabo Pulmo and the bays of Isla Espíritu Santo, and in summer, whale sharks off La Paz. A week with a larger yacht can reach toward these waters, while a villa-based week tends to favor the coves closer to home.

Ashore, the same plan holds golf, wellness and arrival. Priority tee times at Quivira, Diamante, Querencia and Palmilla, in-villa massage and private yoga, and private aviation handling at San José del Cabo are arranged within the same thread, so the days ashore are as composed as those at sea.

One concierge across both

What makes the week work is that a single concierge holds it together. The villa staff, the yacht's captain and crew, the drivers, the chefs and the reservations all work from one plan, and changes made in the morning reach every part of it by lunch. Guests do not coordinate between the house and the boat; they simply move between them.

The Estate & The Sea is one of the signature itineraries described in Experiences, and it is composed rather than packaged: the house, the yacht and the length of each are matched to the party. Readers considering the shore half of the week may also find our guide to the villas of Pedregal useful.

When you are ready, our concierge will begin with a conversation about the party, the season and the pace you have in mind. Plan my charter, or inquire about the villa and yacht together.
